To help your child memorize their multiplication tables for the long term, nothing beats the fun of a game! This game mechanic turns practice into a motivating challenge: your child aims for a perfect score out of genuine enthusiasm rather than obligation, and progresses while having fun thanks to our times tables games.

3- Worksheet to print and complete

Once your child has learned the 9 times table, this worksheet is the ideal tool to check what they've learned: it's a list of multiplications with the missing answers for your child to fill in. After completing the worksheet, ask them to check their answers using a multiplication chart, which remains the most practical tool for this.

Then have them circle any incorrect answers, to identify their weak points and focus practice on those alone. There's no need to discourage them by making them redo the whole worksheet: for the multiplications that are still tricky, have them copy those multiplications several times in a row, and repeat this for 2 or 3 consecutive days. You can also make use of their auditory memory by asking them to recite the answers out loud.

As long as there are still mistakes or hesitations with the 9 times table, it's best to keep practicing before moving on to the 10 times table.

4- Flashcards for the 9 Times Table

Have you tried flashcards before? They're a method that works really well for children with a good visual memory, helping them memorize multiplications by heart, at their own pace.

To prepare them, glue each page of the PDF onto a piece of cardstock to make the cards sturdier and prevent see-through, then cut out each card along the solid lines. Next, fold each card along the dotted lines and glue the 2 sides together to hold them in place. This gives you cards showing a multiplication on the front, and its result on the back.

Shuffle the cards, then show them to your child one at a time : let them give their answer, whether right or wrong, or wait until they hesitate for too long, before flipping the card over so they can check. Set aside the cards they've mastered, so practice can focus on the ones that are still tricky, and revisit those regularly until they're fully memorized.

Trick for the 9 Times Table

This times table may seem difficult, but you'll see that, with the help of your fingers, knowing the 9 times table is a piece of cake ! To quickly find all the results in this table, you'll need just your 2 hands and your 10 fingers.

  • 1- Place your hands side by side, palms facing you, and imagine that your fingers are numbered from 1 to 10 from left to right.
  • 2- Bend the finger corresponding to the number multiplied by 9.
  • 3- Count the number of fingers to the left of the folded finger and get the first digit of the result.
  • 4- Count the number of fingers to the right of the folded finger and get the second digit of the result.
  • 5- Put the 2 digits side by side, and you have the result of the multiplication !

Let's take the example of the multiplication 9 x 3 :

  • 1- Place your hands side by side, palms facing you.
  • 2- Fold the finger corresponding to 3.
  • 3- The number of fingers to the left of the folded finger is 2.
  • 4- The number of fingers to the right of the folded finger is 7.
  • 5- By placing the 2 digits side by side, you get 27.

Place your hands side by side, palms facing you. As 9 is multiplied by 2, bend the finger number 2. Next, count the number of fingers to the left of the folded finger (there is 1) and then the number of fingers to the right of the folded finger (there are 8). The result of 9 x 2 is 18.

9 x 3

Place your hands side by side, palms facing you. As 9 is multiplied by 3, bend the finger number 3. Next, count the number of fingers to the left of the folded finger (there are 2) and then the number of fingers to the right of the folded finger (there are 7). The result of 9 x 3 is 27.

9 x 4

Place your hands side by side, palms facing you. As 9 is multiplied by 4, bend the finger number 4. Next, count the number of fingers to the left of the folded finger (there are 3) and then the number of fingers to the right of the folded finger (there are 6). The result of 9 x 4 is 36.

9 x 5

Place your hands side by side, palms facing you. As 9 is multiplied by 5, bend the finger number 5. Next, count the number of fingers to the left of the folded finger (there are 4) and then the number of fingers to the right of the folded finger (there are 5). The result of 9 x 5 is 45.

9 x 6

Place your hands side by side, palms facing you. As 9 is multiplied by 6, bend the finger number 6. Next, count the number of fingers to the left of the folded finger (there are 5) and then the number of fingers to the right of the folded finger (there are 4). The result of 9 x 6 is 54.

9 x 7

Place your hands side by side, palms facing you. As 9 is multiplied by 7, bend the finger number 7. Next, count the number of fingers to the left of the folded finger (there are 6) and then the number of fingers to the right of the folded finger (there are 3). The result of 9 x 7 is 63.

9 x 8

Place your hands side by side, palms facing you. As 9 is multiplied by 8, bend the finger number 8. Next, count the number of fingers to the left of the folded finger (there are 7) and then the number of fingers to the right of the folded finger (there are 2). The result of 9 x 8 is 72.
